Background
The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) is currently planning our transportation investments for the next 30 years. We want them to know that the residents in Orange County (especially Chapel Hill and Carrboro) want to see the light rail investment prioritized!
The Car Free Day Event 2008
Over the weekend prior to Car Free Day 2008, over 500 people have expressed support for the light rail option, that will tie into the rail line from Durham to Raleigh. It's clear that Orange County residents see the benefit of light rail transit over bus rapid transit. It's efficicient, and supports compact, green development and improved air quality in our communities, while reducing our dependence on foreign oil.
They have signed a letter that will be mailled to the local transportation planners, expressing support for light rail transit -- as shown in the "fixed guideway" scenario -- as the best option for efficient travel between Chapel Hill and Durham.
